  Developing a lifelong philanthropic relationship with alumni begins in the first few years after they graduate. Coming at them right away with aggressive and overly direct solicitations for money can be off-putting and may jeopardize that relationship. Finding softer, more engaging, and even more entertaining ways to explain and convey the importance and impact of philanthropy at your institution can set the stage for loyal support for years to come. This session will focus on developing a compelling case for participation and support, methods for timing and coordinating communication, tactics for leveraging volunteers and much more!

• Givitas: The Power of Generosity
  
  Institutional fundraising is unique among industries.  In any other environment other universities/colleges/schools would be viewed as your competitors but in the educational philanthropy space, where alumni attend and are linked to limited institutions, we operate more like colleagues than competition. This hands-on workshop is based on the research of Adam Grant and borrows on his work around optimizing generosity for the larger community. Rooted in the idea that everyone has knowledge they can share but also things they can learn if they operate with a growth mindset, this workshop will explore very tangible ways we can knowledge share and why this is a critical component of driving innovation in the philanthropic sector.

Engaging the Emerging Generation of Donors

An increasing number of today's donors and virtually all of tomorrow's donors live online, on social media and on mobile devices. We need to meet them in those channels and engage them in a manner that they enjoy and want to repeat. During this presentation we will examine the current landscape and what we've learned as an increasing number of institutions have significantly expanded their digital fundraising. We will share best practices in digital fundraising and Felicity, a self-proclaimed 'recovering fundraiser,' will discuss what she wish she had tried, what she is bullish on in the future landscape and what we should look for and expect from our vendor relationships.

Young Alumni Engagement Idea Swap

Come engage in a rapid-fire session of great ideas you can put to use in your own shops immediately. In this highly participatory session, participants selected by you will have 60 seconds to present their idea big or small that can be applied to Young Alumni Engagement programs. You’ll be exposed to a dynamic network of colleagues with whom to share and further develop the ideas presented, plus a recording summarizing the ideas will be shared following the conference.
