CASE District IV members work hard throughout the year promoting the areas of alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas. District IV bestows a number of special awards each year at the district’s annual meeting for individuals and institutions who continually raise the bar in their efforts to promote education.

Dr. E. Joseph Savoie Chief Executive Leadership Award

The Chief Executive Leadership Award recognizes a District IV member institution president, headmaster, chancellor, educational system head or institutional CEO for outstanding efforts to promote understanding and support of education. 

Criteria:

  • District IV member institution president, headmaster, chancellor, educational system head, or institutional CEO.  The nominee must have been at their current institution for 5 consecutive years prior to nomination.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create a vision and inspire others.
  • Establish a positive image for their institution while leading it to even higher levels of success.
  • Increase institution’s stature in the community.
  • Encourage innovation and risk-taking among employees.
  • Support all aspects of advancement at their institution.
  • Employed at a CASE District IV member institution at the time of selection.

Distinguished Achievement Award

The CASE District IV Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes individuals making significant commitment to the advancement profession, both by service to their institution and volunteer service to the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and CASE District IV. 

Criteria/Eligibility

  • Currently employed as an advancement professional at a CASE District IV member institution with a minimum of five consecutive years at a CASE IV institution prior to nomination.
  • Sustained outstanding performance of responsibilities. Documentation of performance may include professional certification or other recognition, CASE awards, publications, etc.
  • Ten-year active involvement in CASE with emphasis on participation and leadership. May include service to the profession through active involvement as leader, teacher, mentor district officer, committee member/chair and other service.

Hall of Fame Award

The District IV Hall of Fame Award recognizes retired professionals who have pro­vided outstanding service to their institutions, to CASE District IV, to the advance­ment profession, and to higher education. 

Criteria

  • Retirement from active employment as an advancement professional at a CASE IV member institution for at least one year, with a minimum of five years at the institution.
  • A sustained outstanding achievement. Documentation of achievement may include professional certification, CASE awards, publications, etc.
  • Five-year minimum active involvement in CASE IV with emphasis on outstanding participation and leadership. This may include service to the profession through active involvement as a leader, teacher, mentor, district officer, committee member/chair, and other services.

John T. Shamblin Jr. Top Hand Award

A special award conferred to individuals who are not in the educational advancement profession, but who have given extraordinary service to the profession and to District IV. 

Nominations

Nominations are made by the District Chair at the suggestion of the Annual District Conference Committee Chair and/or past chairs. The District Executive Committee approves the nomination and the award is presented at the annual District conference.

About John T. Shamblin, Jr.

The award was named in honor of John T. Shamblin, Jr. Shamblin worked for many years for Evans Press in Fort Worth, printers of college catalogs among other specialties. He was named CASE IV Top Hand for his never-ending hospitality and for making every member attending a conference feel welcome.

After he left Evans, he was the principle partner in another firm, CJM and Associates, and continued to serve CASE District IV conference committees by helping to organize exhibitors and oversaw the conference’s hospitality suite. This is a role Shamblin treasured and held until his death in 1997.

Rising Star Award

The CASE District IV Rising Star Award recognizes the accomplishments of new advancement professionals (2-5 years in the field) whose early success promises future leadership and achievement. 

Criteria

  • Currently employed as an advancement professional at a CASE IV member institution
  • Demonstrates potential for leadership within any area of institutional advancement: communications (public relations, media relations, publications, and others), alumni relations, advancement services or philanthropy (fundraising and others).
  • Demonstrates and enthusiasm for advancement with a spirit of volunteer service through his/her involvement in CASE and other organizations tasked with advancing education.

Nomination Instructions

The nominator must be on staff at a CASE member institution, educational affiliate, or educational partner.

All application materials are submitted online. Nominators will be asked to answer these questions:

  • Please provide a brief overview of why you are nominating this candidate for this award. If selected for an award, this statement will be used on the CASE website and in promotional materials.
  • In addition to attaching the candidate's resume/CV, please provide a brief summary of the candidate’s professional experience. If selected for an award, this statement may be used on the CASE website and in promotional materials. 
  • Describe the length, type and variety of service that the candidate has given to the institution. 
  • Describe the candidate’s involvement with CASE and/or other volunteer service. 

Nominators also will be asked to upload:

  • A resume/CV of the candidate.
  • A letter in support of the nomination from someone other than the person submitting the nomination.
  • LinkedIn Profile, if available.

The nomination period opens on Aug. 19, 2024, and closes on Oct. 11, 2024.
