Bio

Emmett Coffey is a lecturer in the Media Communications Department in MTU Cork.  He is the Programme Co-ordinator for the MA in Public Relations with New Media in MTU Cork and lectures across a number of degree programmes including the MA in Journalism and Digital Content Creation and the BA programmes in Creative Digital Media and Visual Communications . He is a thesis supervisor for MA students in the Media Communications Department and is the External Examiner for the Diploma in Public Relations, run by the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII), the professional body for public relations and communications professionals in Ireland.

Emmett holds postgraduate qualifications in Public Relations (Technological University, Dublin), Education and Computer Science (University College Cork). His research interests include Crisis Management in the not-for-profit sector and media relations in the creative industries. He is a founding members of European Creative Futures (ECF) partnership network which promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to enterprise and innovation education and involves collaboration with third-level education partners across Europe. He has also delivered programmes in entrepreneurship and enterprise studies in Vietnam and South Africa as part of various MTU teaching delegations. He is a founding member of Story? – an international student documentary film festival run annually in MTU Cork.

Before becoming a full-time lecturer, Emmett was a secondary school teacher, a journalist, and a public relations consultant. He is an enthusiastic advocate of close collaboration between academia and industry. This is reflected in the strong involvement of key individuals and agencies in the wider communications and digital media sectors as advisers, mentors and project supervisors in the modules and programmes in which he is involved.
