Meet the Planning Committee

Alex Favier
Alex Favier is the director of global and political affairs at The University of Nottingham. His remit includes international government relations across the University's campuses in the UK, China, and Malaysia, supporting the impact of the University's research amongst policy-makers, strategic reputation and relationship management, higher education policy and supporting the vice-chancellor and university executive board.
Alex sits on the advisory board for UUKI HE Forum and represents Universities on the Midlands Engine Trade and Investment Board.
Alex is the CASE Europe’s Annual Conference Chair (2018-20).
Prior to this, Alex established the national political affairs and policy function at the University of Warwick, where he was responsible for developing relationships between the university and policy-makers in Westminster, Whitehall, and the wider policy community, as well as public engagement and festivals. Alex held roles in public affairs at Warwick; as the policy and parliamentary adviser for the mission-group, University Alliance; as the business development manager for the University of Sheffield's Public Services Academy and in economic policy for Sheffield City Council. He has a master's degree in global politics and law from the University of Sheffield, where he was also an undergraduate.

Nathalie Trott
Nathalie joined Queen’s University Belfast as Director of Development and Alumni Relations in July 2019. Prior to that she was the CEO of the Dublin City University Educational Trust; Director of External Affairs at the Cambridge Judge Business School; and Head of Alumni Relations at the University of Cambridge. Nathalie is the Co-Chair for this year’s CASE Europe annual conference and is the recipient of CASE’s Crystal Apple and Distinguished Service Award. //She’s a Trustee of the Bridge Group, a not-for-profit consultancy that uses research to promote social equality, and is a big fan of Park Run, regularly pushing her small child up large hills in a running buggy!

Tristan Alltimes
Tristan is currently the Deputy Director of Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving at Durham University and is responsible for both the strategic and operational delivery of key integrated activities including events, communications, volunteering and annual giving to a global alumni community of over 200,000 alumni and supporters. With over 17 years extensive business experience of alumni and corporate relations, fundraising, business development, international recruitment, communications, marketing, sales and customer led service provision, Tristan has held senior management roles both in the UK and Australia and brings a global perspective from over a decade of international stakeholder engagement. Tristan is a passionate supporter of, and long standing volunteer to CASE and is focused on enhancing the Advancement profession through mentoring, the sharing of best practice and ideas and networking with colleagues across the world.

Kerrie Holland
Kerrie joined Aston University in 2018, leading alumni and supporter engagement and development services. Aston exists to serve its beneficiaries – students, business, our region and society – and Kerrie works strategically across the University to develop alumni support for these, and to address international and employability priorities. Kerrie worked in recruitment at a senior level before seeing the light and entering the world of alumni relations in 2011. She joined the University of Birmingham as their first Volunteer Relationship Manager, becoming Deputy Head of Alumni Relations in 2014 and then Head of Engagement, leading an award-winning team producing innovative work across communications, events, student engagement and donor relations. Kerrie is passionate about collaboration and development communities. She is a member of the CASE Talent Management network, an Advisory Board member for TEDx Aston University and has been a speaker for IDPE and AUA as well as CASE.

Barbro Kolbjornsrud
Barbro Kolbjørnsrud has experience within alumni and external relations, executive and corporate education and volunteer engagement from business schools and universities. She has developed and managed a broad range of professional and successful events and emerging programs to cultivate relationships between alumni, faculty and external relations. Barbro has strong capabilities in strategic planning and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience.
Barbro holds a Bachelor in Marketing, Strategy, and Internationalization and an Executive Master in Management, both from BI Norwegian Business School. She is a CASE -volunteer as chair for the CASE Nordic Summit Program Committee and co-chair for the CASE Northern Europe Cabinet, and coordinates the National network for alumni-professionals in Norway.

Kurstin Finch Gnehm
Kurstin is a passionate advocate for the power of education, with over 20 years of experience as a fundraiser, teacher, mentor, and writer. She currently serves as Senior Partner at Cairney & Company, following a distinguished career at some of the most prestigious universities and organisations in the US and UK. Kurstin's expertise spans a wide range of fundraising areas, including campaign management, major gifts, regular giving, supporter care, and legacies. She has held senior roles at institutions like Linfield University, the Royal Academy of Music, and the University of St Andrews, as well as overseeing significant campaigns such as the £30m Lead The Way capital campaign for Dogs Trust.
Outside of fundraising, Kurstin is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of fundraisers. She serves on the CASE Spring Institute faculty, teaching on topics like regular giving and mental health for fundraisers, and developed the Leadership Accelerator module in 2024. Recognised for her contributions to philanthropy, she has earned the CASE Laureate and Crystal Apple award. In addition to her leadership roles, Kurstin is passionate about fostering strong team cultures, offering training in areas like leadership development, team retention, project management, and cultural competency. She believes that by cultivating the right behaviours in teams, successful fundraising outcomes will follow.

Jessica O'Mary
Jessica O’Mary joined the Stockholm School of Economics in 2014 and is currently the Head of Development and Alumni Relations, where she is oversees corporate, individual and foundation fundraising in addition to the alumni relations program. She has over 10 years of experience in fundraising in the nonprofit and higher education sector, both in the U.S. and Sweden. Jessica holds a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from The University of Texas at Austin, with a specialization in nonprofit and philanthropic studies. She is also an active volunteer with CASE (The Council for Advancement of Higher Education) and serves on the CASE Europe Annual Conference 2020 Planning Committee.

Claire Brown
Claire Brown is the Director of Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment at the University of Manchester, the UK’s largest single-site University. Claire began her marketing career in the FMCG sector but then moved into Higher Education, joining the University of Liverpool in 2000 where her career culminated in her appointment as Director of External Relations, Marketing and Communications. Claire is a Fellow of the CIM and a former trustee of CASE Europe.

Lorraine Westwood
Lorraine is Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President International at Bangor University, the latest step in a career in higher education marketing and communications which spans nearly 20 years. With experience of the needs of both small specialist institutions, with five years as Director at Harper Adams University, and large post 92 universities, Birmingham City and Manchester Met, Lorraine has faced a broad range of challenges. Throughout her career she has remained focused on the indivisible link between student recruitment, widening participation, brand and reputation.

Lindsey Davis
Lindsey is a TES Award-winning fundraiser with over ten years' experience of working in development and alumni engagement across the higher education and schools sector.
Lindsey is currently building a new Development Office at Bradford Grammar School, which was recently voted 2018 Northern Independent School of the Year by the Sunday Times and counts David Hockney, Alastair Campbell, and Adrian Moorhouse MBE amongst its alumni. She has strategic oversight of fundraising, alumni and corporate relations, and marketing and communications activity and is in the preliminary stages of planning a major fundraising campaign for the school.
Prior to moving up north, Lindsey was Development Director at the Independent Schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham (KES and KEHS) for almost three years. During this time, she raised over £4.8 million for Assisted Places and capital projects across two distinct campaigns at very different stages of evolution, developing a dynamic alumni engagement programme at the girls’ school and broadening corporate engagement with KEHS as part of the Delyvere Campaign, At KES, she led the Development Office through the close and celebration phases of the school’s £10million AP100 Campaign.
Lindsey began her fundraising career as a major gifts officer at the University of Oxford, where for seven years she led on fundraising for access projects and bursary provision, securing over £5 million in new donations as part of the ground-breaking Oxford Thinking Campaign. A graduate of the University of Oxford and the first in her family to go to university, she is passionate about using philanthropy to advance educational opportunities – education proving so transformational in her own life.

Beth Crutcher
Beth Crutcher serves as Director of Advancement at The American School in London. She began at ASL July 2016 after having spent the past 18 years on the US east coast working in leadership positions with Princeton University, Princeton HealthCare System and Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart. Past positions also include running a community arts agency and fundraising for the Henry Ford Estate, University of Michigan. From overseeing the development of new non-profits to raising record breaking gifts helping fund a new hospital, Beth credits continued education as the key to a productive career. She obtained her Master’s Degree from University of Pennsylvania in Organizational Dynamics as a mid-career professional and new mother, writing her thesis on the use of positive organizational psychology in fundraising. Beth has spoken at many professional conferences on themes of affinity giving, stewardship and campaign strategies.

Catherine Thomson
Catherine joined Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen as Head of Marketing in September 2021. She was previously Marketing and Communications Manager at UCL for six years, with specific responsibility for the arts, humanities and social sciences. Catherine joined UCL after ten years at the University of Warwick, where she was Senior Assistant Registrar for Student Recruitment. Whilst at Warwick she also held roles in admissions, widening participation and student induction, and was a warden in university residences. Catherine began her career in higher education as an editor at UCAS, following her Masters in English at the University of Sheffield, where she was also an undergraduate. She has been involved with CASE as a speaker and session chair at the past two CEAC conferences, and is looking forward to reconnecting with former colleagues and meeting new ones at CEAC online this autumn.

Marnie Middlemiss
Marnie joined the University of Brighton in September 2019 as their Director of Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement. She has over 20 years’ experience as a fundraiser working across the cultural, heritage and higher education sectors. She has worked for the Roundhouse (Camden), King’s College London, Bath Spa University, The Holburne Museum (Bath) and The Photographers’ Gallery (London). She has particular experience in the establishment of new fundraising and alumni teams, strategic development, building the donor base, and capital campaigns. She volunteered with CASE Europe on the annual Ross-CASE Survey of Charitable Giving to Universities in 2016 and 2017, and has presented at the CASE Europe Conference. She is the Co-Chair of the Board of Trustee for Attitude is Everything, a charity which improves Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music by working in partnership with audiences, artists and the music industry.

Dee Reid
Dee Reid joined Leeds Beckett University as Director of External Relations in September 2017 where she leads internal and external communication, public affairs, brand, creative, digital and alumni, events and partnerships. She has over 25 years’ experience in strategic communications, working in senior roles in local government, education, the NHS and the private sector. Before joining Leeds Beckett, she was Head of Communications and Marketing at Leeds City Council, leading communications for the UK’s third largest city and prior to that, Head of Communications for Education Leeds, providing support for the city’s 265 schools. Dee is deputy chair of Leeds Community Foundation and a member of the CASE Europe Council.
