5 Bad Habits to Break When Working from Home
Working from home certainly has its perks and can result in increased productivity for some. For others, it can have the unintended effect of underperformance and decreased professionalism. According to Fast Company, if you are guilty of any of these bad habits, take proactive steps now to correct yourself before it becomes a serious issue with your supervisor.
-
Distracted. During team video meetings, do you turn on your camera and mic? Are you participating in the discussion? If you spend video meetings texting friends, scrolling through Facebook, or working on something else, redirect your attention and engage in the meeting.
-
Unfocused. Are you constantly dealing with unforeseen issues at home? Are you missing deadlines and meetings because of them? Get organized and block time to address personal issues so you can focus on work.
-
Multitasking. Do you have a never-ending to-do list? Do projects keep piling up and you do not know where to start? Are you working on three things at once? Ask your supervisor for guidance on prioritization.
-
Overworking. Do you start working before the sun rises? Are you answering emails late at night? Working nonstop can lead to burnout, and that is not good for you or your coworkers. Set boundaries for your workday and strive for work-life balance.
-
Too Casual. Are you dressed from the top up for a day at the beach? While working from home tends to imply “business casual,” make sure you are not dressed too casually, especially when participating in important video meetings with senior-level executives.
