Go with the Flow to Improve Your Leadership Skills
Being able to go with the flow— learning how to improvise to deal with any situation—provides you with new solutions. There is a lot of turmoil in the world today, causing people to freeze and be unable to deal with change. According to Joyce Wilson-Sanford, knowing how to improvise in a chaotic world will allow you to keep your organization moving forward. She believes that going with the flow means being able to maneuver through obstacles and challenges as they arise. Wilson-Sanford says improvisation builds energy, making it a must-have trait for effective leadership.
There are several ways to improve your flow:
Don’t worry about making mistakes. Improvisation means that whatever you are doing is the right thing to do. It wastes energy to worry that what you are doing is a mistake.
Don’t rely on habit. Habits can block creativity and energy. Changing how you do things will also change your perspective.
Learn how to tell stories. When something unexpected occurs, we want to understand how it happened. Learning to develop stories to explain situations makes it easier to communicate and act.
Be open to opportunities. People who learn to be accessible and open will find opportunities as they occur.
