In New York City, on 25th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, a 15-by-35-foot, colorful mural features a photorealistic portrait of actor John Devereaux, along with his words: “The Stage is a Platform for Joy.”
In Los Angeles, on the side of Hollywood Boulevard’s historic Fonda Theatre, a 56-by-32-foot mural displays an image of television writer and producer Katherine Beattie flying through the air in her wheelchair. In bold font, her quote reads: “Live a Life Story Worth Telling.”
Professional basketball star Desmond Bane is featured in similar style on a larger-than-life mural in Nashville, Tennessee—the same state where he plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. His quote appears over the action shot: “No One Achieves Their Dream Alone.”
Devereaux, Beattie, and Bane are all alumni of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, U.S., and the hand-painted murals featuring them are part of the university’s national brand campaign supporting its 150th anniversary theme “Lead On: Celebrating 150 Years of TCU.”
The campaign kicked off in fall 2022 with the unveiling of Devereaux’s mural during a celebration event that brought together members of the university community and New York City–based alumni. TCU hosted similar events for the Los Angeles unveiling in February and the Nashville unveiling in April. Another mural was completed in Chicago in June, and the last one will be unveiled with a celebration in Fort Worth in fall 2023.
