This black-and-white map was influenced by graduates’ memories of their campus experiences at Georgia Tech and hand drawn by a 2021 alumna. The U.S. institution used the map to engage alumni with a coloring contest and a scavenger hunt, and by sharing it across social media channels and email during the university’s 2021 homecoming week—generating 141% more impressions and 129% more engagements than annual averages.
“The [suggestions] we received from alumni were about their personal experience within a building, [but also] these moments that everybody had synergy around, like the ‘Archi-torture Freezer,’ which is the architecture building that was very cold,” says Lindsay Vaughn, Vice President of Strategic Communications.
“Being able to demonstrate the creative spirit of our community in alumni [contributing] to an original piece,” is what made the project special, she says.
“Everybody was asking for the program at homecoming, not only because they were interested in seeing when an event was happening, but because the back had the map on it. We had a lot of people asking for a second or third [copy],” says Vaughn.
