In 2019, Mid-State Technical College launched a multiyear capital campaign that would raise nearly $23 million for the benefit of its rural Wisconsin, U.S., community. The creation of the new Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, and Apprenticeship Center is a direct result of community support and will be fully operational for the 2024 fall semester.

Q: How do you decide what data to dig into for your illustrations? What intrigues you?

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is partnering with three leading fundraising organizations to develop best practices about the collection, storage and use of data on race, ethnicity, and gender identity in charitable fundraising.

The release of ChatGPT in November 2022 spurred renewed discussions on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace and academia. This resource collection from the CASE Library introduces the basics of AI, takes a look at some of the latest trends and ethical questions, and provides information on how AI is being leveraged by educational institutions and nonprofit organizations. 

Advancement professionals at Delta College, Clark College, and Central Community College talk about the benefits of participating in CASE’s VSE and AEM surveys, including benchmarking against peers, maintaining an organized database, and proving your college’s success to leadership, lawmakers, and the community.

Given the fear and uncertainty that data conjures in some advancement professionals, it remains vital for all in advancement to build trust, strengthen communication, and encourage the appropriate level of participation when it comes to data processes. That involves hard work, adaptability, and careful consideration on the parts of data specialists, numbers neophytes, and, of course, institutional leadership.

Many agree that collecting, storing, and analyzing qualitative data is vital to advancement’s growth and an important balance to departments’ continually growing quantitative data capabilities. But is there a method that’s scalable? How can advancement professionals work with data that is, by its definition, difficult to measure? 

The CASE Library has created this collection to provide resources about the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which took effect on May 25, 2018. The law applies to all institutions and organizations that interact with or possess data of EU residents.
