As we gear up for CASE’s Development for Deans and Academic Leaders: Winter Session in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in February 2020, we spoke with faculty members Dale Wright and Rashid Bashir on the challenges facing academic leaders and their fundraising partners, leadership advice, and what they’re most looking forward to at the conference.

Since 2019, Iowa has hosted the Write Now flash fiction challenge, inviting alumni and friends to submit 1,000-word stories on specific prompts. There are both kid and adult divisions, and over the years, stories have poured in from writers in more than two dozen countries.

As CASE gears up for Advanced Development for Deans and Academic Leaders in January 2020, we sat down with Chair Shaun Keister, vice chancellor of development and alumni relations at the University of California, Davis, to hear more about the fundraising challenges facing deans today and what he’s most looking forward to at the conference.

The CASE Library maintains this collection of online samples for all CASE members. The collection represents institutions seeking to raise funds from alumni and donors outside of the home country. It includes examples of institution web pages for international giving, web pages of global advancement offices and foundations, global fundraising events, policies and procedures, and job descriptions.

How institutions are undertaking award-winning initiatives that celebrate diversity and build equitable and inclusive communities

There may be no better group of supporters than alumni. Alumni know their alma mater and have benefited the most from your institutional offerings—education and social connections. They’ve formed relationships with each other and your faculty and staff. They have a life-long affinity for your school, making them a prime group for successful fundraising. 

Supporting fundraising and alumni relations simultaneously is one such example of strategic decision-making focused both on the present and the future health of our educational institutions.
