Shelagh Murray was appointed as Director of the University of Otago’s Development and Alumni Relations Office in February 2018. 

She has over 20 years of experience in philanthropy and engagement in the higher education and not-for-profit sectors.

Murray amassed extensive experience in implementing successful fundraising and alumni relations strategies at the University of Canterbury and at Victoria University of Wellington where she held leadership roles. In 2016/2017, she was a Senior Consultant at fundraising consultancy AskRIGHT. 

Her professional activities include membership of the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand (FINZ); Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), ex-President of the NZ chapter of Educate Plus and was made a Fellow of Educate Plus for services to the organisation and members of the profession.
