Doorways Magazine
From the Judges' Report
- Doorways (The Holton-Arms School) is thoughtfully planned, written, and edited. It features a solid editorial mix about the school and current students, as well as alumni.
- Overall, Doorways is beautifully designed. Someone here is thinking about how images enhance storytelling-something we wished we had seen in more magazines. The photographs and illustrations enhance the content. We loved the photographs of HIV-positive indigenous Canadians. An interesting feature about one alumna's experience living in Italy was beautifully designed and photographed. There were a few design missteps: a large quote that ran across the gutter was very hard to read and at least one feature story design was overly busy with graphics screened behind text.
- "This magazine has ‘real' content. I loved the international flavor of the stories: lessons learned in Italy. A researcher in Egypt. A photographer in Vietnam."
- "Excellent print quality. Finally! Someone who knows how to print on uncoated paper."
- "Reconsider the fonts in Class Notes-specifically, the font you're using for people's names. It's really hard to read."
