About the entry
"Deportation was always a looming dark cloud above our home," said Jose Cisneros. The fate of this Carolina student and the hundreds of thousands of other children of undocumented immigrants who qualify for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program has never been more uncertain—more frightening—as Congress and the White House debate it as part of the remaking of immigration policy. We listened to DACA students, welcome at the university but subject to high out-of-state tuition and ineligible for any public aid. They are hopeful, ambitious and scared.
From the Judges' Report
Thorough and carefully written story that not only makes us think about this important topic but also makes us feel the struggles of the children of undocumented immigrants.
