"The Power of Literature" by Ann Hood, QuadAngles Magazine
About the entry
A warm, deeply personal defense of being an English major.
From the Judges' Report
An awesome personal, moving, entertaining and very human piece. It promoted understanding and why being an English major makes a lot of sense. In this very well-written text, the author crafted a deeply personal and touching story about her education, career, life and what the university has meant to her, all tied around the larger concepts of returning home again (or at least to school) and reassessing all your life decisions. This is literally the perfect story for a university alumni magazine. The illustrations are a nice touch. The unique cover image and overall imagery, as well as the striking use of color, not only instantly captured our attention, but in combination with the author's narrative, also transported the reader to an earlier time underscored by self-discovery.
