University of Westminster Mentoring Scheme
About the entry
The University of Westminster Mentoring Scheme was established in 2010 to connect students with alumni who are working in their fields of professional interest. The program has grown in popularity and participation across the student and alumni body since. However, up until 2017, the program was unable to achieve further growth due to lack of available resources beyond the university's capacity. In 2017, the university's executive board backed a bid written by the alumni and careers teams to a major educational trust, which laid out plans to substantially increase the scale and impact of the mentoring program, through providing full time employment to three of our graduates to run the program. The application successfully went through a competitive bid process, and the university was awarded £113,000 to take the mentoring program to new levels of success and impact.
From the Judges' Report
The commission agreed that this model mentoring program targets specific constituencies, especially those who need support to reach their full potential. Similarly, the commission shared that Westminster’s program provides crucial support long after an individual graduates from the institution.
