About the entry

This video is the core of the #WeBelongInTech fundraising and awareness campaign developed by the University of Waterloo's faculty of mathematics, with the support of Jo Atlee, computer science professor and director of Waterloo's Women in Computer Science group.

Waterloo’s video has a sense of boldness to it. The opening is original and immediately grabs the viewer’s attention. It is somewhat daring to include the stereotype quotes throughout the video, and Waterloo effectively illustrates what these young women are trying to overcome in their field. The committee felt that this video could include stronger institutional branding and a stronger call to action at the end, ie. How do I give money? How do I help? What do I do now? Although the video was beautifully done with a great message, we were left unsure as to what step we were supposed to take next.
