Carleton College Voice
From the Nominator
The Carleton College Voice is Carleton's quarterly alumni magazine. It covers topics of general interest to all alumni and has a circulation of approximately 33,000.
From the Judges
The Carleton College Voice gives the reader good insight into the campus and students. The covers draw you in (you want to keep touching them) and, once you're inside, the copy and selection of stories hold your interest. The Carleton staff is tackling some hefty subject matter. Judges loved the headline, "The Cost of Free Speech." In fact, judges loved everything about this magazine: its sophisticated design with great illustration, typography, and use of white space. The section titles give a sense of place. The student issue is excellent, and the "Energy Underground" story reflects a spirit of sophisticated collaboration. The digital versions do not give these magazines the credit they deserve. The covers/articles are great and the photography is excellent. Each issue is a great showcase of color and style. The field guide was amazing!
