GW Magazine, "The Power Issue"
From the Nominator
An entire issue dedicated to the notion of “power” in its various forms—stories of encounters with it, what it’s like to wield power and to have it wielded against you. When the idea of doing a “power”-themed issue came up, the more we thought about it, the more we realized it was boundless—and that this was something everyone could relate to. Rather than focus on powerful people, we sought stories that got to something genuine: what it really feels like to encounter power, to wield it, to have it wielded against you.
From the Judges
This is a terrific, well-executed book. The cover is a clever alternative to many other "Power Issue" covers, and the theme carries throughout the book in themes and graphics. The feature itself is compelling, and I enjoyed reading nearly every word of this issue. Loved the features on the weightlifter and Everett Alvarez, in particular -- as well as your varied mix of voices and experiences to represent the Power theme. The story ideas were great and the writing was excellent.
