Each year, the University of Maryland Alumni Association hosts network board leaders from across the nation for Leadership Conference: a multi-day event comprised of professional development, networking, and stewardship. In 2018, the program welcomed 119 attendees from 12 states. As the fourth annual Leadership Conference, we took feedback from past attendees to build a program that balanced what we hoped to communicate with what our volunteers want from us. Attendees engaged in radical brainstorming, got a behind-the-scenes tour of a new athletics facility, and met fellow network leaders from a diverse range of 33 academic, affinity, and regional networks.

Maryland put together an alumni leadership conference that was a great balance of information, training, and fun. From their promotional materials to the program, everything sent a message of Maryland Pride and an outstanding opportunity to network and learn new skills. The team also did a great job listening to previous participants and incorporating their suggestions. Maryland provides a great model for other campuses to emulate.
