This a video project of a group of surprised first-generation college students reading letters from their parents with an unexpected visitor at the end. We established relationships with the parents and students in a way that we were able to gain archival home videos, photos, and personal and powerful stories from them.

Overall, this was a very impressive project to target first-generation college students and families. The video was successful in achieving an emotional response, which provided for a unique take on a common video shown during commencement. The video was well-done, touching, and well-orchestrated. It was impressive that the subjects videotaped were not aware of the complete purpose and the end result, with the surprise at the end, tugged at the heart strings. The project was also impressive that no outside resources were used,that it was done in-house. The project was effective with strong engagement on social media.
