The design is colorful and dynamic throughout; dense, but never cluttered; with a mix of portraiture, illustration, infographics, and archival photos. We try to cram an incredible amount of information into these nine pages, and the design work of art director Marc Kauffman and designer Corrine Furjanic presents that content in a way that’s engaging and unpredictable.
From the Judges
The strength of this design lies in the fact that it is a complete section. Many of us have managed news sections in our careers and it can easily become a “ho-hum” placeholder for all the odds and ends that didn’t make it elsewhere in the magazine. Opens with an interesting, colorful photo; on to a well-designed teacher profile. Good use of both custom and purchased images.
