My NYU Stories is a club-driven alumni program sponsored, organized, and executed by the NYU Alumni Club in Shanghai. The initiative is primarily focused on connecting successful senior-level alumni with more junior-level alumni to discuss the impact their NYU experience, or “story,” had on their professional life. The conversations occur every month and are documented in both Mandarin and Chinese. They are then shared on WeChat and have a monthly readership of nearly 3,000 alumni.
From the Judges
This program was heavily volunteer- and alumni-driven, and was easily replicable and scalable. The expansion into China using WeChat and other locally-accessible channels takes the program above and beyond the standard mentorship/story program, and helps to engage a market that is not always reachable by communication channels used commonly in the United States.
