The University of Maryland School of Nursing’s biannual magazine, NURSING FOR/UM, has a dual mission: 1. To maintain our connection with 24,000+ alumni, friends, and supporters and 2. To provide engaging, thought-provoking, and educational content related to the field of nursing, so that our readers can apply what they learn through our magazine to improving patient care and health care in general.
From the Judges
This magazine earns the bronze for elevating not only the school but the entire profession of nursing. It portrays nursing as the modern, socially relevant profession that it is, and it portrays nurses and nursing students as engaged and diverse. While the old magazine felt like a newsletter, the redesigned version is a real magazine that readers will sit with. It is more imaginative in both content and design. Compared to the old version, it focuses much less on promotional material (such as donor lists) and more on nursing and its impact in society.
