From the Nominator
In the 1990s, South Africa dismantled apartheid, its institutional system of racial oppression that was aimed at the nation’s majority black and colored people. Since then, the country has staked its national transformation on several scientific fields, including astronomy, anthropology, and geoscience. The University of Wisconsin–Madison has partnered with scientists, universities, and government agencies in South Africa and has helped advance and open new scientific frontiers.
From the Judges
Beautifully rendered and a fascinating topic, this ambitious series takes viewers/readers all over the globe, almost like a piece in National Geographic. Reading the story is an experience. This could have been a dense tale, but it’s well-written and digestible. In addition, the writing really takes advantage of the web as medium.
