School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Year in Review 2016–17
From the Nominator
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC) third installment of its annual report titled "Year in Review" served to position the school as a world leader in educating artist and designers while showcasing the impact of scholarships and faculty endowments. The goal of the communications for the "Year in Review" was to look back on the initiatives of the first year of President Elissa Tenny’s presidency and on the successful completion of the first year of Beautiful/Work: The Campaign for SAIC. The report showcased the school’s financial strength, marked the successes of the campaign during the fiscal year, and thanked donors.
From the Judges
Overall we loved the succinct and straightforward copy that paired well with the visuals. The size and type treatments were playful and unexpected. Kudos to using images the full page size. Love the uncoated paper in the front and then the metallic creamy paper in the back for the donor names–an elegant and subtle elevation of content type. One judge said "Simple, playful design that distilled content into easily scannable sections, interspersed nicely with photography." Photography was also a nice mix of scene and details. Captured the feel of the institution nicely.
