Something’s Brewing: How FIU Ignite Turned a Cup of Coffee Into $8.6 million From Its Faculty and Staff!
From the Nominator
Ignite is FIUs annual faculty & staff giving campaign. It marries need-based funds from university community members and grassroots initiatives, which promote a philanthropic culture of paying it forward. Each individual can direct his or her gift to any fund, allowing a transition from passive donation to ownership of philanthropic endeavors. We focus on the value of participation (no gifts is too small), and all donors are equally recognized with a commemorative annual pin, a thank you card, and a certificate of recognition.
From the Judges
The panel was impressed with the level of buy-in the campaign has garnered from faculty and staff. The recognition of all individuals equally, regardless of the size of their gift, with a commemorative pin, a thank you card, and a certificate of recognition. The level of overall participation (78% ) was exceptional. What ultimately distinguishes this campaign, however, is the level of planned giving participation (nearly half). Since FIU first launched this campaign in 2011 to present, it has continued to learn and refine its process year to year. This is paying off not just in dollars, but also in increased participation at the unit level.
