“A Watersports Paradise…” – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology – Admissions Introductory Self Mailer 2018-19
From the Nominator
Mailed to the full Rose-Hulman prospect list in the spring of their junior year, this is the first publication these prospective students receive that introduces them to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The purpose of the “Watersports paradise” concept was to stand out from the typical ‘college mail clutter’ featuring standard campus beauty shots and evoke curiosity and interest with an unusual cover image and intriguing headline. The objective of this piece is to show that Rose-Hulman knows what it is and what it isn’t. We are a Midwestern private college that excels at undergraduate engineering education. They come to Rose-Hulman to get the best undergraduate STEM education in the U.S. They know they will get to jump right into projects, assisted by curious and collaborative classmates and challenging, yet supportive faculty and staff. This piece provides a snapshot of the active and collaborative education at Rose-Hulman it in a way that projects the institute’s personality and harkens back to the popular “Ski Terre Haute” recruitment poster the college produced in the late 1970s (and which many of our current prospects’ parents received).
From the Judges
This piece made us laugh! The tongue-in-cheek content was creative and clever, and at the same time it communicates the actual message very effectively. While this would not necessarily appeal to everyone, Rose-Hulman knows their audience and it's sure to catch the eyes of prospective engineers.
