Dartmouth Undying
From the Nominator
Dartmouth Undying—the phrase taken from the lyrics of a century-old college song—is a literary, visually stunning chronicle of Dartmouth College’s colorful and impactful 250-year history. Produced as part of the institution’s 250th anniversary celebration in 2019, it’s part showcase of Dartmouth’s traditions and northern New England setting, part persuasive case for Dartmouth’s intimate size and teacher-scholar faculty model. Dartmouth Undying is more than a coffee table book. It presents history not as picture book or chronology, but as 250 years of evidence in support of Dartmouth’s unique approach to liberal arts education.
From the Judges
Dartmouth was the clear winner in this category among the judges, who noted the book's gorgeous imagery and the impressive way the editors and designers brought together a comprehensive view of the university’s history with a sophisticated, thoroughly modern visual look and a dash of wit and playfulness. The content and design came together in a way that is highly readable. Indeed, it is something that would have wide appeal even for those beyond the Dartmouth community.
