Michigan Today is a free, monthly email sent to 350,000 University of Michigan alumni, faculty, and staff worldwide. Average open rate: 21%, or 70,000 users per issue. Each issue includes: 7 news/feature stories, 1 podcast, 1 slideshow, 3 columns authored by faculty experts (climate change, health, and culture/movies), and 1 editor's blog. Staff: One editor manages all creative aspects of production, writing features and promo copy, assigning stories, editing, coding the website, recording and producing the podcast, and selecting images and writing captions for slideshows. Michigan Today is the only campus conduit to the entire alumni base, and its monthly schedule allows greater flexibility than other university publications.
