Orange and Red are in the Same Family
From the Nominator
Rivalries are strong within Texas, especially college rivalries. The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the University of Texas Longhorns battle mightily against one another on the basketball court, football field and in every other type of athletic or academic competition. But Texas pride trumps school rivalries. So when the Texas Tech University basketball team became the only Texas team to make it to the NCAA finals, school loyalties were temporarily forgotten and all Texans cheered them on. To show its support, the University of Texas System placed an ad in Texas Tech’s student newspaper, The Daily Toreador. The headline of the ad was “Orange and Red are in the same family,” a play on Texas Tech’s red and UT’s orange colors. The ad congratulated the Red Raiders and encouraged them to bring the trophy home to Texas with the hashtag #winitfortexas.
From the Judges
This was a nice gesture and message of good will: in the end, no matter how intense sports rivalries are, pride and support for each other stands a notch above. It's especially meaningful during these times. The ad had a clever use of wording and a strong photo. We also liked the headline.
