Stanford Magazine
From the Nominator
The July 2019 issue is the second issue in the STANFORD magazine redesign. Publishing only five times per year, the cover choices are a crucial part of the editorial mix. This cover boils a deeply reported, complex, multi-pronged story about artificial intelligence into a single-minded visual. There are many stories about artificial intelligence in the current media. It was important to distinguish this story as one that clearly explores human consequences by making an immediate connection with readers.
From the Judges
This is a very slick production, owing something in terms of format to magazines such as The Economist, Time Magazine, The Week, etc. The cover design on this issue in particular pops in yellow with great logo and arresting illustration for the cover story. The feature spreads are very pleasing to the eye with some excellent flourishes.
