UConn360: The UConn Podcast
From the Nominator
UConn 360 is a biweekly podcast using a radio magazine format that brings listeners stories and information from one of the nation’s top public research universities. Co-hosts Julie Bartucca, Ken Best, and Tom Breen provide current news, and produce stories covering faculty research, student life, innovative classes, arts and culture events, and interesting alumni. There is also a look back into the past, highlighting the events and personalities that tell the story of how a small agricultural college evolved into a major institution of higher education with internationally known programs and scholars, high-achieving students, and alumni who hold prominent positions in government, businesses and other organizations.
From the Judges
UConn360’s news magazine format broadens the potential audience and allows UConn to showcase a wide variety of stories—from news tidbits, to in-depth interviews with faculty, staff, and students. The three hosts bring personality, light banter, and even a little irreverence to each show. They also serve as the interviewers; the hosts’ background in journalism really shows in the quality of the interviews. We were especially intrigued by how the UConn News Office is using the podcast segments to package their stories for journalists—so much more compelling than your typical news release.
