This edition of the alumni magazine was the first time we had intentionally organized the publication around a unifying theme. We tapped into the zeitgeist of the "Me, Too" movement and other stories of women's empowerment, and found an opportunity to highlight the many incredible women connected to Eastern Oregon University. Our team summed up this relevant message with the title, "Women on the Rise." Every story in the magazine centers around a woman student, employee or graduate. The women in these stories exemplify EOU's values and upward trajectory. With them at the helm, we're all on the rise.
From the Judges
At only 38 cents per unit, the judges were very impressed with the quality of the Eastern Oregon University production. Although the college was dubbed, "Oregon's Rural University," they took a bold step of creating a magazine that features only women and tells the empowering stories of those who are connected to their college. This re-designed and re-imagined issue of The Mountaineer featured compelling writing and photos that draw the reader in easily.
