Andover, the Magazine of Phillips Academy & Abbot Academy
From the Nominator
The two issues submitted showcase some of the best that Andover has to offer: its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as presented in the spring 2020 “Justice” issue, and it’s long history of innovative world-renowned secondary education, as exhibited by our 16th Head of School Raynard S. Kington, who was introduced in the fall/winter 2020 issue.
The Justice issue provides a wide swath of stories on different aspects of justice, which was an Academy-wide theme for the 2019-2020 academic year. The 22-page feature well includes stories on equitable grading, Andover’s fraught history with Christian missionaries to Hawaii, and multiple profiles providing unique perspectives on the work done by faculty, students, and alumni to address injustice around the world. We also were able to secure a highly anticipated interview with FBI Director and Andover alum Christopher Wray, who talked with us broadly about issues of justice facing the country.
Not only does our fall/winter 2020 issue present an in-depth profile of Andover’s 16th head of school, it also unveils a new magazine redesign, with a revised content architecture, new sections, a vibrant approach to color, photography, and design, and a more strategic approach to the content that matters most to our alumni: Andover’s history, students today, alumni profiles, issues of equity and inclusion, and campus news.
From the Judges
Wow, two beautiful publications! We particularly loved the spring edition; it was so perfectly relevant and the cover art matched with the alumni article was very powerful.
