Coffee Break Conversations - Women Empowering Women
From the Nominator
Bryant University’s Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement launched Coffee Break Conversations, a grassroots virtual series, to develop and cultivate a personal and meaningful network for our female constituents in the wake of the isolation brought on by the COVID pandemic. Each Coffee Break Conversation is a one-hour facilitated discussion led by two alumnae volunteers, and examines topics related to work, life, education, and professional development balance. The alumnae volunteers introduce the day’s theme, share their personal experiences and perspectives and, in a supportive open dialogue, encourage attendees to share stories, ask questions, and suggest areas for future exploration. The alumnae volunteers are not experts on their topics, but have professional experience and a general curiosity and interest in sharing and learning from others. This has resulted in a more authentic and organic peer-to-peer exploration of an idea which is distinctive from a webinar or lecture series.
Some sessions have included a brief pre-assignment such as a video or an article to launch the conversation, and some sessions have incorporated breakout rooms for small group discussion. Follow up resources are posted in Women of Bryant Group in Alumnifire, our grassroots mentoring and networking platform. The program has completed four of an initial eight session series that will conclude in June. Given the encouraging response to this program, we look forward to continuing the virtual series in the fall.
