Hokie Hike
From the Nominator
Virginia Tech launched its first-ever Hokie Hike as a way to connect alumni and friends online at a time when gathering in person was not possible.
To participate, Hokies were asked to register and then get outside and share their journey on social media and a photo leaderboard during the hiking window that culminated on National Take A Hike Day. Registration was $30 and $5 of that fee was a gift, benefiting Rec Sports at Virginia Tech. Participants got a long-sleeve hike T-shirt, sticker, and bandana mailed to them.
The event helped to build community, engage alumni, friends, students, and parents, and raised money for outdoor recreation activities for students, which was more important than ever during the 2020-21 academic year.
From the Judges
