Pop-uplifting stewardship
From the Nominator
After several construction delays, Sky Ward at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, a space that was transformed from offices into a new state-of-the-art cardiology ward and pediatric intensive care unit, was set to officially open in early 2020. But when the pandemic struck and the country entered lockdown, all plans for a grand opening of this new, innovative ward had to be postponed.
The celebration we had envisioned with donors and staff to take place before patients were going to be housed on the ward was quickly scrapped. And with hospital space at a premium, there was no choice but to open the ward to patients so we could continue to take care of the unwell children who need care during the first wave of the COVID crisis.
Because the hospital was, and still is, unable to welcome visitors because of the pandemic, we wanted to provide the main donor to the ward, the Khoo Teck Puat UK Foundation, a visual tour of the space and a way to meet a few of the key staff that were responsible in the completion of the ward.
With this in mind, we created two stewardship products for the donor: a video brochure with a fun pop-up image, doubling as a tangible keepsake, and a microsite which gave a more in-depth look through text, images and video at the construction, facilities, and staff. Both products provide a stimulating and colourful representation of Sky Ward, and capture the spirit of the ward in a memorable and impactful way.
From the Judges
We loved how the pop-up image book connected to children. It was such a perfect recognition piece for pediatric fundraising, and full of whimsy. The idea of making the stewardship products playful was thoughtful and meaningful to the donors. We appreciated the cost effectiveness. The video alone would have made it award-worthy, but the pop-up book was so unique we gave this nomination a Gold.
