Shuffle 31
From the Nominator
When COVID-19 struck, our team showed great creativity to save Shuffle 31—Concordia’s annual walkathon—by pivoting to a hybrid of self-directed walks and collective online celebrations. Each fall, faculty, staff, and students take part in Shuffle, a 6.5 km walkathon between our Sir George Williams and Loyola campuses, to raise funds for student bursaries, scholarships, and services.
With in-person fundraisers cancelled across Canada, our team was determined to find alternative ways to support students—many of whom had lost their jobs during the pandemic, and were struggling. By working together, our team came up with novel solutions that allowed our community to continue its tradition of supporting students.
We could not have hoped for a better response. Held from Sept. 18-25, 2020, Shuffle 31 raised an impressive $140,964—by far our best cost-per-dollar-raised walkathon.
From the Judges
Creative shift for a virtual event, very successful outcomes, great promotions during the week of the shuffle.
