Social Distancing with Gunrock Arcade Games

UC Davis Social Media Team’s main strategic objective is to “be helpful to our community.”
In May, the team used a brand-new interactive medium, Giphy Arcade, to bring a bit of fun and levity to the very serious start of the COVID-19 pandemic, while subtly sharing and encouraging public health behaviors. We created a series of arcade games to give our community a break. The games featured our mascot in a few scenarios where he is fighting the virus—socially distanced and masked, of course. It was well-received by our audience, and received recognition on external social media-related discussion groups.

Very creative! Nice use of technology to engage audience. Innovative way to use GIPHY in a way that not everyone does. We also loved the way you were able to bring the mascot in to fight the virus, and reinforce important public health messages while giving players of the arcade game a branded break from COVID-19.
