Spotify Playlists
From the Nominator
While universities recommend music playlists to their students, it is less common to find universities that build their own, purposeful Spotify playlists for their students and staff. At UC Davis, we wanted to break this boundary by curating playlists with music generated directly from our students, for our students. On Spotify, UC Davis has crafted eight unique and diverse playlists, tailor-made to the individual needs of our students and staff. From our “Lo-Fi-nals Aggie Mix,” with Lo-Fi tunes to encourage maximum focus and finals study success, to “Chancellor May’s Mixtape,” with songs handpicked directly from the UC Davis chancellor himself, our university employs music as an outlet for students and staff to connect with UC Davis from wherever they are in the world.
From the Judges
Music is part of everyone’s lives; bonds are created over music, and memories are made to songs. University of California, Davis students found a great way to meet people where they, are and bring them closer to the school in the process. This project was an innovative idea that embraced cross-campus collaboration to create a unique lineup of UC Davis Spotify playlists. The playlists stood out for the way they bridge the gap between faculty/staff and students through music—something highlighted by the chancellor’s curated playlist. This project could serve as an adaptable model for other institutions due to its low cost and ease of implementation.
