For 60 years. UC San Diego has paved a new path: one founded on challenging expectations, engaging in experimentation, and taking risks. And UC San Diego Athletics has been a critical piece of our innovative spirit. Our teams are already champions—with 30 national championships and more than 1,400 All-American honors—but as UC San Diego transitions to Division I athletics in the Big West Conference beginning this academic year, it is imperative that we continue to build momentum and develop a program that remains competitive both in the classroom and on the fields of play.
The path to Division I is ongoing, with full membership in 2024. Between now and then, our goal is to increase athletic scholarships, equip state-of-the-art facilities, and develop leading-edge programs that ensure our scholar-athletes’ success.
