From the Nominator
An extraordinary year demanded an extraordinary recap. To provide the proper context and storytelling around an unprecedented year defined by the COVID-19 pandemic, BU’s Marketing & Communications team built a website around the theme “20 Defining Moments from 2020, and the People Who Shaped Them.” We broke down the year into single, defining moments or decisions that shaped the year for students, faculty, and staff. The website was replete with short stories, videos, and photo essays, and designed in an immersive format to take readers on a journey through the historic year for Boston University—a year shaped not only by the coronavirus, but also by racism, science, climate, politics, and protest.
From the Judges
This entry was a standout in visual design—tasteful, dynamic, and each page uniquely engaging. BU beautifully distilled their year into 20 highlights, and then further distilled each highlight into gorgeous videos or eloquent reflections. You don't have to be part of the BU community to appreciate these moments, and that's a huge testament to the strength of the storytelling on this site. Even more impressive was the fact that the site was built almost entirely in-house, a creative feat during this challenging pandemic year.
