100 Years in 100 Objects: The Centennial 1922-2022
From the Nominator
""History lives in us. History lives in our things."
As The Webb Schools prepared to launch The Centennial and The Next 100: The Centennial Campaign, senior staff and volunteers discussed a variety of ways to explore Webb's history and its future. Although we settled on The Centennial Campaign being "future-focused," we also wanted a unique and innovative way to celebrate the past 100 years--a remarkable accomplishment for a boarding school out west (and seemingly more so in the throws of the global pandemic).
We settled on creating a book of both ordinary and sacred objects gathered from the archives that would engage alumni across the eras. We pursued a modern design, utilizing relatively simple photos and fresh and fun copy. The book was originally meant to complement the live campaign launch event (and announcement of a transformative gift of $100 million) and campaign case statement. Following a decision to launch the campaign virtually in October 2021, it was mailed to 2,000+ Webb donors as a "gift" just prior to the winter holiday season.
The feedback from alumni and parents has been very positive. Many of their comments relate to their time at Webb and their love of the school. The campaign has a goal of $200 million, of which $181 million has been raised to date."
From the Judges
As a combined entry, this campaign included two beautiful pieces that really give you a sense of the institution and its history and students. We felt the 100 objects viewbook would give any donors a sense that their gift would be in good hands.
