Boost the 'Cuse: Syracuse University's Day of Giving
From the Nominator
"Beginning on Thursday, October 7, at 12:01 A.M. and concluding at 11:59 P.M., the office of philanthropic engagement--in partnership with the offices of alumni engagement, marketing and communications, technical systems and support, and support from across advancement and external affairs--launched the fifth annual Boost the ’Cuse: Syracuse University’s Day of Giving. This effort had goals of 5,000 donors and reinvigorating philanthropic giving to the university as part of the Forever Orange capital campaign.
This year’s results exceeded expectations by ending with 6,220 donors and over $1.3 million to support current students. With a revamped VIP (Very Influential Person) program, new interactive giving quiz, incredible campus activities (included a huge increase in student giving participation), and a restructure to a cause-based giving layout instead of university organization-driven choices, this giving day brought Boost the ’Cuse up to a new level."
From the Judges
Buzzfeed-style quiz was a unique idea to uncover donor passion, as well as build on engagement by matching a donor’s passion to a cause. Involving students for giving to their student organisations was great to specifically engage with students, which is normally quite hard to do, along with the VIP program. It was also smart to advocate an influencer role, modernising the term ambassador.
