"The Fight Against Invisibility" by Amy Yee
From the Nominator
"As we plan each issue of Wellesley, we think about how to connect our readers with events in the world and illustrate the ways that members of the college community are making a difference in their local communities and on the national and international stage.
The fall 2021 magazine cover story “The Fight Against Invisibility” does just that, highlighting alumnae and faculty calling attention to the discrimination, social inequities, and hate faced by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Alumnae told us that they were glad that the subject was prominently featured in the alumnae magazine.
One Asian American alumna, a distinguished physician, was inspired to write a letter to the editor about her own experience with racism and discrimination, and commented, “The current climate of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness hopefully is not just a passing phase, but will bring about real changes.”"
From the Judges
Nice use of an alumna author. Good balance of personal and well-researched information.
