Impact Report on the Nelms Institute for the Connected World
From the Nominator
"Warren Nelms was a distinguished Gator engineering alumnus who built his own solar “smart” home in the ‘80s, placing him at the vanguard of the movement to leverage technology that connects our world. His innovative legacy inspired both of his children to become University of Florida (UF) engineers themselves. Guided by his father's tinkerer spirit, and driven to support other budding engineers, David Nelms made a $5 million gift in 2017 to form UF’s Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World.
In honor of the five-year anniversary of the institute and David’s lead gift, the UF Advancement Principal Gifts team collaborated with the Hebert Wertheim College of Engineering to produce a dynamic impact report tailored to David Nelms and his family. The report was presented to them during a special anniversary luncheon hosted by the college.
Warren sadly passed away in May 2021, so the impact report and anniversary event were designed specifically to celebrate his unique impact—a legacy that lives on in the institute’s research, education, and outreach. We created a document that has a strong focus on the Nelms family’s exceptional contributions to the university community. By weaving in family photos throughout the beginning of the document, we sought to establish Warren as a guiding force for the institute’s current work and its vision for the future of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence."
From the Judges
A good stewardship report that has a clear target. Additionally, judges felt the breaking up of headline words on page to page really pulls you through the content in a nice way.
