"Keeping the Faith" | Samrath Singh '22
From the Nominator
"Samrath Singh is a member of the Boston College class of 2022 and a pitcher for the university’s baseball team. Singh is believed to be the first observant Sikh ever to play Division 1 NCAA baseball. As an observant Sikh, Singh does not cut his hair and wears a turban in public at all times. Singh stands out among his teammates, largely because—unlike other baseball players—he does not wear a baseball hat. Although Boston College is a Jesuit, Catholic university, Singh has found that the university’s values largely align with his own and the baseball team and university as a whole have accepted and affirmed his Sikh identity.
We told Singh's story through both a video and Boston College Magazine article titled, "Keeping the Faith." The project has proved to be successful, garnering more than 300,000 combined views across multiple media platforms, such as LinkedIn reposts from Sikh influencers, articles from NBC News, social shares and views on BC's social outlets, and even an invitation for Singh to be interviewed and featured on Good Morning America."
