Origins: The Duke Forest
From the Nominator
"Duke University is an institution with over 100 years of history, 40,000 employees, and several hundred thousand alumni. As such, we’re sitting on countless stories that appear mundane at first glance. Buildings constructed. Students graduated. Employees hired. No big deal.
But that’s not true. These stories matter to our community, our employees, our students, our alumni, and our prospective students. Inspired by pop culture and the popularity of comic book hero origin stories, Duke Origins--a YouTube series launched in 2019--is meant to shine a spotlight on the stories around campus that are either overlooked or hidden from view.
The Origins: Duke Forest episode highlights the mission and work of the six members of the Duke Forest staff who take care of 7,100 acres of teaching and research lands stretching across Durham, Orange, and Alamance Counties. Our goal for this project was to highlight their mission and help educate both the Duke and Durham communities about this incredible resource we have in our backyard."
