Pepperdine University's IT Annual Review
From the Nominator
"Pepperdine University’s Information Technology Annual Review is designed primarily as an annual report from the IT department to the university president and his administration. Conceived as a letter-sized, four-color magazine, the publication’s goal is to bring life to what many may consider to be very dry, mundane subject matter.
To shift those perceptions, IT communications, working under the umbrella of the IT administrative team, used the broad theme of “Standing Up to Coronavirus” to illustrate the 100-person IT department’s efforts to pivot from on-ground classes to remote instruction after the COVID pandemic shut down businesses and schools worldwide in March 2020.
We also reached out to two faculty members who contributed to the piece: one to detail his positive experience with research computing, and another who detailed his tips for other faculty to transition to remote instruction in response to the crisis. Giving these subjects bold digital magazine layouts with colorful portraits, extensive quotes from IT staff, and a full-page infographic brought some life to the common metrics from the year and helped humanize the staff’s extraordinary work for the university administration and our community.
IT communications emailed more than 13,000 members of the Pepperdine community with a link to the book on issuu.com and the IT website on the first anniversary of the university going remote on March 16, 2020."
From the Judges
An interesting read and focused on the target audience. Good content, design (illustrations), and photography, which makes it worthy of note, especially the striking front cover and cover inside.
