The Seed Field Podcast
From the Nominator
"In its inaugural year, The Seed Field Podcast has produced two seasons of unique interviews with scholars from across the country. These members of the Antiochian community are leaders in their fields who are living the university’s mission of working toward social, economic, and environmental justice. This podcast provides a much-needed platform to speak about their innovative scholarship and community projects.
With campus locations spread across the country, and with the recent growth of our online programs, Antioch needed a way to connect current students, alumni, faculty, and staff to the important work being done within our community. The podcast provides this, while also giving prospective students the opportunity to learn more about our faculty and programs. For our admissions staff who are helping students as they decide whether or not to enroll at our university, being able to share professional-quality, in-depth interviews is a powerful tool.
One emphasis of the Seed Field Podcast is exploring Antioch’s focus on social justice and how it intersects with the many expertises of our university. We draw our show’s name from a speech by the first president, Horace Mann, who fought for the abolition of slavery and for free, universal primary and secondary education. He said, “Time is a seed field. In youth, we sow it with causes. In afterlife, we reap the harvest of effects.” But how can people learn of the many causes that Antiochians are fighting for? This podcast, across its varied and wide-ranging interviews, provides an answer."
From the Judges
Great to be book-ended by the same host and a terrific idea to have guest hosts matched with an expert with similar interests. Impressive editing work by an in-house staff member who might have other duties and roles!
